The community of Swartruggens are frustrated by Kgetleng Rivier Local Municipality that after their march on 28 June, they gave the authorities a chance to respond to their grievances. The leaders are so known by municipal officials that a delegation of Swartruggens community leaders after leading a peaceful march on 28 June, they again paid a visit to Kgetleng Rivier Local Municipality Head Office in Koster, on Monday, July 10.
One of the delegates, Rammupu Mooketsi said: We won't leave any stone unturned. Every time we ask about service delivery, a project will resume work without any information provided from the municipality.
"Now it is time for the municipality to consult the community in everything that they do and we are aware of the nepotism within the offices of our municipality. The deadline for getting answers from the municipality about community grievances is Wednesday, 12 July."
The purpose of the visit was to seek clarification regarding the construction of the Borolelo Entrance Roads Project which was abandoned, but hardly three days after the community marched, construction of these roads resumed.
Community leaders want to meet the Municipal Manager Clement Letsoalo including the Mayor, and demand a fair share of opportunities for all members of the community. The residents called for the immediate intervention of the provincial government and senior officials in the South African Police Services to intervene since there is too much crime in the area.
Community leaders delighted that the meeting with the Municipal Manager( MM) has registered good stride regarding the frustration that escalated his department
A follow up meeting with community leaders is confirmed for 27 July
