North West Social Development offices in Mahikeng were engulfed by fire on Monday, 10 July.
The cause of the fire that engulfed the two offices on the first floor of the Provident House building on Monday night is still under investigation by the North West Department of Social Development.
The four-storey building accommodates employees from the Departments of Social Development, Employment and Labour.
Obakeng Mongale, the Acting Head of Social Development, explained that the fire originated in one office and subsequently spread to the neighbouring offices at around 9pm on Monday.
"Security officers present at the scene attempted to extinguish the fire and promptly alerted the emergency fire and rescue department for assistance.
The firefighters responded swiftly upon receiving the call, managing to contain the blaze," said Mongale. He said fortunately there were no injuries reported.
Mongale expressed gratitude to the Mahikeng Fire and Rescue Department for their rapid response, which prevented the fire from causing further damage to the entire building.
He also commended the security guards for promptly notifying the emergency services about the incident.
As part of the ongoing investigations into the fire, the west wing of Provident House has been cordoned off.
Mongale urged affected employees to remain calm and work remotely starting from Tuesday.
