Tebogo Chologi also known as “Mrembola” was recognised with several awards and accolades from different countries around the world with his 2020 film.
With his enthusiasm for producing and directing films, Tebogo Timothy Chologi, a 34-year-old talented artist who was born and raised in Magogoe Tlhabologo in Mahikeng, has won awards and accolades from several countries for his short films "THE SHACK." The film was created at his home in Magogoe while everyone was under lockdown at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. “I can say it was inspired by not having to and things not moving, that’s when the lockdown was introduced,” he said. His issue was that he used "street talk vocabulary" in the film, thus he says he was surprised how other nations responded well to his film.
THE SHACK has won awards for Best Arthouse Film (2020, Kismet Film Festival, USA); Best Director Award and Audience Award (2020, uMgungundlovu Film Festival, RSA); Standard Bank Gold Ovation Award (2021, Makhanda National Film Festival, RSA); third place in Jury Award (2021, Unified Film Festival, Germany); fi¬nalist (2021, Cannes World Film Festival, France); Best Experimental Film and Best Director for Experimental Film (2022, GIMFA – Gralha International Monthly Film Festival, Brazil); and a Silver Award for Best Short Film – Fiction (2022, One Earth Awards, India).
Before acting in various productions such as Never Say Goodbye (2013), Tlhala Ntša (2015), Kgaratlho (2018) and others, he worked with a multifaceted production. “There was a production called Expressions, it was a big show where we had the likes of Cassper Nyovest, Fi¬fi Cooper and other local artists. After that I went into acting where I started auditioning for Never Say Goodbye and other productions,” said Chologi. Having a National Certi¬ficate in Film and Television Production and a lot of expertise in the arts, he believes that acting requires a lot of work. “Whether you go to art school or you are self-taught, the main thing is hard work,” he said.
