The Thuntsha Lerole Programme prioritises Service Delivery

Acting Premier Nono Maloyi led the District launch of the Accelerated Service Delivery Programme (ASDP) - Thuntsha Lerole Programme in Madibeng Local Municipality in Bojanala-Platinum District on Friday. It is aimed at addressing various service delivery challenges in the municipality.

Maloyi described Thuntsha Lerole, a Setswana phrase aptly meaning "hard at work", as a two-year-old Accelerated Service Delivery Plan (ASDP) centred on prioritising the rollout of key infrastructure projects across the province.

Furthermore, ASDP aims to protect existing jobs and create new ones while addressing the negative impact of violent protests on private businesses and infrastructure.

Bokfontein residents in the Madibeng Local Municipality were the next to benefit from the coordinated ramp-up of service delivery, which increased public satisfaction with the quality of government service.

Maloyi, who also handed over a few title deeds to home owners, explained the importance of the programme and how it should be sustained weekly to deal speedily with community and service delivery challenges in the municipalities.

"The initiative aims to mobilise communities to address service delivery challenges and provide practical solutions," said Maloyi.

Accompanied by Members of the Executive Council, Executive Mayors and government and municipal officials, Maloyi acted upon the government's plan to give all citizens equitable access to necessary services, regardless of their socioeconomic status. The provincial government focused on title deeds handover, water provision, sewage spillage, rubbish dump removal, pothole repair and high-mast light fixing.

Maloyi said municipalities would also work on service delivery backlogs every Friday. The functionality of municipalities and disaster relief efforts were among the additions.

"We have taken all government departments in the province, including those at the national level, including local municipalities, to say every Friday we must visit at least one municipality, attend to challenges of our people in those areas. Spending money which has already been allocated to different departments and different spheres of government to attend to these challenges," said Maloyi.

The government created the ASDP because it understands that inadequate essential services might cause a social crisis that can spiral out of hand and threaten its ability to exercise authority. These issues demand immediate intervention, and the ASDP is the most efficient response.

Among the activities on Friday at the Madibeng Local Municipality, the North West Department of Public Works and Roads led routine road maintenance (pothole patching, road markings) in Bapong and also cleaned the illegal dumping site.

The Department of Education observed the signing of the pledge by the Education Assistants, NSNP, and EPWP officials, donated sanitary towels, launched the Mobile Library, and updated the community of Bokfontein about the new school to be built by the department.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development gave a vegetable garden and production inputs to Field of Dreams in Schaumburg.

The Department of Human Settlements concluded with a title deeds handover ceremony for the residents of Bokfontein and by handing over a house to an elderly woman, Mrs Nkele Mokwena.
