Tolashe fights Gender-Based Violence in DR RSM empowerment drive

In a two-day event, Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth, and Persons With Disability, Nokuza Sisisi Tolashe, recently engaged with the community in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District. The Member of Parliament's visit was marked by a fervent commitment to addressing critical issues, celebrating local achievements, and providing support to various community initiatives.

On the first day, Tolashe dedicated her time to the women of Naledi, delivering a compelling lecture on the pervasive issue of gender-based violence. Her focus on education and awareness underscored the urgency of combating this societal menace. Moreover, she paid homage to the late Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati, celebrating the life and contributions of a remarkable advocate for women's rights.

Joined by Naledi Local Municipality Mayor Councillor CJ Groep, Speaker Councillor PG Gulane, MEC for Social Development Lazzy Mokgosi, and DR RSM Executive Mayor Councillor Motseokae on the second day, the delegation embarked on a series of visits to key locations within the district. Their itinerary included a visit to a centenarian in Huhudi, during which they planted a tree and presented gifts of appreciation.

The delegation also stopped at the Khuselela one-stop centre, dedicated to supporting abused mothers and children, highlighting their commitment to addressing domestic abuse and providing comprehensive support. Continuing their tour, the group explored the newly established Mompati Mall in Naledi, symbolizing growth and development within the community.

The mall not only signifies progress but also provides opportunities for local businesses, contributing to the economic advancement of the district. A pivotal moment during the visit was the showcase of local Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) at the Alimo Villa Bed and Breakfast guest house.

Tolashe's recognition and support for these enterprises underscored her commitment to bolstering local entrepreneurship and fostering economic sustainability within the community. Tolashe's visit stands as a testament to the government's dedication to supporting and uplifting communities. Through her advocacy against gender-based violence, honouring inspirational figures, and promoting local businesses, she exemplified a comprehensive approach to fostering growth, empowerment, and unity within the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District.
